Grows well in any upland soil, prefers full sun. Stiff blue-green to silvery needles. Used in landscaping , Christmas trees and windbreaks.
Norway Spruce : Large tree 60-90 feet tall, shade tolerant, moderate to fast growth. Needles are dark green and short. Prefers moist clay to loam soils. Valued for landscaping, windbreaks, and wildlife cover. White Spruce: Our native spruce. Large tree 60-90 feet tall, shade tolerant, slow growing. Prefers well drained clay to clay-loam soils. Tolerates heat, drought, and high water. Used for landscaping, windbreaks and wildlife cover.
White Pine: Our State tree!! Large tree 80-100 feet tall, shade tolerant, moderate to fast growth. Needles are bluish-green, soft and grow in bundles of 5. Prefers rich, moist to well-drained sandy soils. Used for timber, wildlife cover and windbreaks.
Red Pine: Large tree growing 50-80 feet tall. Grows best in well drained sandy soils and full sun. Moderate to fast growth rate. Dark green needles are 4-6'' long in bundles of two. Used for windbreaks, landscaping, and timber.
Jack Pine: A fast growing medium size tree 70-80 feet high and 2 feet in diameter with short and stout, slightly twisted needles. Prefers well-drained loamy san, but can maintain itself on dry sandy or gravelly soil types. Does not tolerate shade. Douglas Fir: Grows best in moist, well drained soil and full sun. A Fast growing tree that will reach up to 50 feet tall. Good for landscaping, wildlife cover, and Christmas trees. Concolor Fir: Grows to 100 feet tall. Tolerates a wide range of soils, shade tolerant, slow growing. Blue-green needles and silver trunk. Good for wildlife cover, landscaping, and Christmas trees. Tamarack- This small to medium sized, deciduous, native conifer will grow 50-75 feet tall on suitable soils with adequate water levels. Grows best on more favorable sites such as moist but well-drained loamy soils along streams, lakes and swamps. It is not tolerant of shade so plant where they will get plenty of sun. Used for timber, wildlife food and cover, aesthetically appealing tree. Seedling size: 2-0, 6-12" Canadian Hemlock- Also called Eastern Hemlock. This is a fast-growing long-lived tree that grows well in shade. This is a hardy specimen that is easily transplanted. They are an aesthetically appealing tree that make wonderful ornamental plantings. Red Cedar- An excellent choice for wildlife food White Cedar-Also called Arborvitae. Another small to medium sized native. Slow growing, shade tolerant. Grows anywhere but prefers wet/moist open areas of poorly drained sites. Tolerant of acidic and alkaline soils. Used for lumber, windbreaks, hedges, wildlife food and cover. Transplant size: 2-1, 6-10" Deciduous Trees American Chestnut- Well suited to dry, sandy soils where available water may be a problem. Shade tolerant and fast growing. Short lived due to its extreme sensitivity to chestnut blight. Seeding size: 2-0, 8-14" Yellow Birch- Landscape tree that is well suited to the average garden soil. Reaches up to 50 feet in height. Aesthetically pleasing tree for the ornamental landscape. Seedling size: 1-0, 6-12 White Birch- Native tree, Grows 35 to 65 feet tall. Fast growing, especially when young. Avoid spring pruning to prevent "bleeding". Likes full sun and not tolerant of shade. Fairly adaptive to different soils, often found in sandy gravelly soils. Uses include timber, firewood and ornamental lawn tree. Seeding size: 1-0 6-12". Black Cherry- A fasst growing tree attaining heights of 60-80 feet with a trunk diameter of 2-3 feet. Prefers sandy to loamy, well drained soils. The clusters of black fruit, which ripen in late summer, are an important food source for birds and wildlife. Intolerant of shade as it grows older. Seedling size: 1-0, 6-12' Black Walnut- A valuable hardwood timber tree with 1-2 foot long compound leaves. Achieving best growth on moist sandy loams where it can reach 60-80 feet in height and 2-3 feet in trunk diameter. The large nuts are a good winter food source for wildlife. Not tolerant of shade. The wood is used for furniture, veneer and gun stocks. Seedling size: 1-0, 6-12" Red Maple- Medium tree 45-60 feet tall, will grow in poorly drained to well drained sites. Shade tolerant and fast growing. Noted for its red buds, twigs and brilliant fall color. Good for landscaping and wildlife. Seedling size: 2-0, 8-14" Sugar Maple- Large tree 80-100 feet tall, moderately shade tolerant and slow to medium growing. Grows well on moist soils. Used for timber, landscaping and maple syrup production. Seedling size: 2-0, 6-12'. Burr Oak- Slow growing on dry uplands and sandy plains. Reaches mature height of 80-100 feet on better sites. Characteristics include a massive clear trunk, with broad open crown of stout branches. Used for timber, lawn and street trees, shelterbelts, and wildlife food and cover. Seedling size: 1-0, 6-12" Red Oak- Large tree of 60-90 feet tall, prefers full sun, relatively fast growing. Grows best on well drained soils. Valued for timber, wildlife and landscaping. Seedling size: 1-0, 8-12" White Oak- Large tree 45-80 feet tall, prefers full sun, slow growing. Grows well on well drained sandy loam to clay loam soils. A good ornamental or forest tree. Valuable for timber and wildlife. Seedling size:1-0, 6-12" Quaking Aspen- Aspen are fast-growing trees that prefer sunny, open sites. They provide quick cover for wildlife such as grouse, turkey and deer, Tulip Poplar-Grows 60-100 feet, fast growing, prefers moist, fertile soil and full sun. Straight trunk, tulip shaped leaves and large yellow and orange flowers. Member of the Magnolia family. Used mostly for landscaping. Seedling size :1-0 6-12"
