Education
plays a vital role in conservation. The more knowledge a
community has about the wildlife and natural features of the
area they live in, the more likely they are to help preserve
those resources. Here at the Muskegon Conservation District our
goal is to provide the community with education about our natural
resources, along with technical assistance help towards their
preservation.
Programs Available
Michigan Groundwater
Stewardship Program (MGSP) Alyssa Merten (Groundwater
Educator) has the opportunity to visit classrooms and present
various models on Groundwater and Surface water in Michigan.
Emphasis is placed on our watersheds here in both Muskegon and
Newaygo Counties. Students have the opportunity for hands on
learning experience with models such as: Enviroscape,
Groundwater flow model, and porosity tubes. This program is an
excellent opportunity for teachers who are instructing lessons
on the water cycle, and environmental issues regarding
groundwater and surface water pollution. These programs are free
of charge, and are available on a first come first serve basis.
If you are either a public school or private school based in
either Muskegon or Newaygo County, this is an excellent
opportunity to take advantage of. These programs also are
available for adult groups such as : church groups, rotary
clubs, township boards, and other environmental groups. If you
would like more information or would like to set up a date visit
the Groundwater page
to learn
more.
